How to Use
Dosage
Your doctor or nurse will give you the correct dose based on your weight and the type of infection; for adults, it's typically 4 mg or 6 mg per kilogram once a day.
Method
The medicine is given directly into a vein: for adults, as a slow injection (about 2 minutes) or an infusion (about 30 minutes); for children, as an infusion (about 30-60 minutes).
Important
The medicine is taken once a day according to the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Fungal infections, such as thrush
- •Urinary tract infections
- •Decreased red blood cells (anemia)
- •Dizziness, anxiety, sleep problems
- •Headache
- •Fever, weakness (asthenia)
- •High or low blood pressure
- •Constipation, abdominal pain
- •Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
- •Flatulence
- •Abdominal swelling or distension
- •Rashes or itching
- •Pain, itching or redness at injection site
- •Pain in hands/arms or legs
- •Higher than usual liver enzyme levels or CPK in blood tests
RARE
- •Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets or certain white blood cells, which may increase blood clotting)
- •Decreased appetite
- •Tingling or numbness in hands/feet, taste changes
- •Tremors
- •Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
- •Indigestion, tongue inflammation
- •Itchy rash
- •Muscle pain, cramps or weakness, muscle inflammation (myositis), joint pain
- •Kidney problems
- •Vaginal inflammation or irritation
- •General pain or weakness, fatigue
- •Increased blood sugar, serum creatinine, myoglobin, or LDH in blood tests, prolonged blood clotting time or electrolyte imbalances
- •Itchy eyes
- •Yellowing of skin or eyes
- •Prolonged prothrombin time
- •Antibiotic-associated colitis (severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood and/or mucus, abdominal pain or fever)
- •Easy bruising, bleeding gums or nosebleeds
Important Warnings
- Do not use if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredients. Tell your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling, or rash.
- If you have or have had kidney problems, tell your doctor. Your dose may need to be changed.
- Tell your doctor right away if you develop unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you develop fever, rash, blisters, peeling skin, or sores in your mouth or genitals.
- Tell your doctor if you experience unusual tingling, numbness, or difficulty moving your hands or feet.

- Tell your doctor right away if you get severe, prolonged, or bloody diarrhea.
- If you develop fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, tell your doctor immediately. These could be signs of a serious lung condition.
- Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter ones, as they can affect how this medicine works.
- Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless you have discussed it with your doctor.
- This medicine should not be given to children under 1 year of age.
