How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your weight, age, and the type of infection; for adults, it's usually 4-6 mg per kilogram of body weight.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein: for adults, either as a 30-minute infusion or a 2-minute injection; for children and adolescents (1-17 years), as a 30-60 minute infusion.

Important

The medicine is usually given once a day.

  • Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets, which can raise blood clotting tendency, or increased certain white blood cell types)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Changes in taste
  • Tremor
  • Changes in heart rhythm
  • Flushing
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Tongue inflammation
  • Itchy rash
  • Muscle pain, cramps or weakness
  • Muscle inflammation (myositis)
  • Joint pain
  • Kidney disorders
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain or weakness
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • Increased blood sugar levels in blood tests
  • Increased serum creatinine levels in blood tests
  • Increased myoglobin levels in blood tests
  • Increased lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in blood tests
  • Prolonged blood clotting time
  • Electrolyte imbalances
  • Itchy eyes
  • Yellowing of skin or whites of eyes
  • Prolonged prothrombin time (blood clotting time)
  • Colitis associated with antibiotics (severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood/mucus, stomach pain or fever)
  • Increased bruising
  • Bleeding gums or nosebleeds

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredient.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop fever, rash, blisters, or sores in your mouth or genitals.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience shortness of breath, facial swelling, rash, or fever, which could be signs of a severe allergic reaction.

  • Inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine, as it can affect blood clotting test results.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 1 year of age.
  • This medicine is generally not given to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially cholesterol-lowering drugs, NSAIDs, and blood thinners.
