Daptomycin Accordpharma is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections of the skin, blood, and heart in adults and children aged 1-17 years.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine your dose based on your weight and the type of infection. For skin infections, it's usually 4 mg per kilogram of body weight once daily. For heart or blood infections, it's typically 6 mg per kilogram of body weight once daily. For children (1-17 years), the dose depends on their age and infection type.

Method

This medicine is given directly into a vein (intravenously). For adults, it's given as an infusion over about 30 minutes or as a slow injection over about 2 minutes. For children, it's given as an infusion over 30-60 minutes.

Important

The medicine is usually given once a day. If you have kidney problems, your doctor might give it less often, for example, every other day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infections, such as thrush
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Reduced red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Dizziness
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Headache
  • Fever, weakness
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Constipation, abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
  • Flatulence
  • Abdominal distension or bloating
  • Rashes or itching
  • Pain, itching or redness at the injection site
  • Pain in hands/arms or legs
  • Higher than normal liver enzyme levels or creatine phosphokinase (CPK) in blood tests
RARE
  • Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets, which may increase blood clotting tendency, or increased white blood cells)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet, changes in taste
  • Tremor
  • Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia), tongue inflammation
  • Itchy skin rash
  • Muscle pain, cramps or weakness, muscle inflammation (myositis), joint pain
  • Kidney disorders
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain or weakness, fatigue
  • Increased blood sugar, serum creatinine, myoglobin or lactate dehydrogenase levels in blood tests, prolonged blood clotting time or electrolyte imbalance
  • Itchy eyes
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Prolonged prothrombin time (blood clotting time)
  • Antibiotic-associated colitis (severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood and/or mucus, abdominal pain or fever)
  • Easy bruising, gum bleeding or nosebleeds

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to daptomycin, sodium hydroxide, or any other ingredients listed in section 6.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had or have kidney problems. Your doctor might need to change your dose.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you feel muscle tenderness, pain, or weakness. You may need blood tests to check your muscles.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe rash, peeling skin, blisters, or sores in your mouth or genitals after taking this medicine. These could be signs of serious skin diseases.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as wheezing, trouble breathing, swelling of your face, neck, or throat, rash, hives, or fever.

  • Tell your doctor if you experience unusual tingling or numbness in your hands or feet, or if you have difficulty moving. Your doctor will decide if you should continue treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea, especially if it's severe, long-lasting, or contains blood or mucus. This could be a sign of a serious gut infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have fever, worsening cough, or trouble breathing. These could be signs of a rare but serious lung condition called eosinophilic pneumonia.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially medicines for cholesterol (statins, fibrates), cyclosporine (for organ transplants or certain skin/joint conditions), pain relievers (NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors), or blood thinners (like warfarin). These medicines can interact with Daptomycin Accordpharma.
  • This medicine is usually not given during pregnancy. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine, as it can pass into breast milk and affect your baby.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 1 year old because animal studies have shown it can cause serious side effects in this age group.
  • If you are very overweight, your doctor will monitor you closely for side effects, as the medicine levels in your blood might be higher.
