This medicine stops certain bacteria from growing to treat infections of the skin, blood, and heart.
For skin infections, 4 mg per kg of body weight once daily. For heart or blood infections, 6 mg per kg of body weight once daily.
It is given into your vein by a doctor or nurse. For adults, it's either a slow drip over about 30 minutes or a quick shot over about 2 minutes. For children (1-17 years), it's a slow drip over 30-60 minutes.
The maximum daily dose is the prescribed amount (either 4 mg/kg or 6 mg/kg) given once a day.
