How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 4 mg per kg for skin infections, or 6 mg per kg for heart/blood infections, once daily.

Method

Given directly into a vein (intravenously) as an infusion over 30 minutes, or a slow injection over 2 minutes (for adults only). For children, it is given as an infusion over 30-60 minutes.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your kidney function.

  • Kidney problems
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain
  • General weakness
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • Increased blood sugar (seen in blood tests)
  • Increased creatinine, myoglobin, or LDH levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Prolonged blood clotting time (seen in blood tests)
  • Electrolyte imbalance (seen in blood tests)
  • Itchy eyes
  • Yellowing of skin or whites of eyes
  • Severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood and/or mucus, abdominal pain, or fever (antibiotic-associated colitis)
  • Easy bruising
  • Bleeding gums or nosebleeds

Important Warnings

  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to adjust your dose; severe kidney issues might cause fever and rash. Always inform your doctor about kidney concerns.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness. Your doctor will check your blood with tests.
  • Seek emergency medical help immediately if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction (such as trouble breathing, swelling of your face or throat, rash, hives, or a fast/weak heartbeat) or severe skin reactions (like widespread rash, peeling skin, blisters, or sores in your mouth or genitals, with or without fever).
  • Inform your doctor if you develop new or worsening fever, cough, or trouble breathing, as these could be symptoms of a rare, serious lung condition.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel tingling, numbness, or weakness in your hands or feet.

  • Report severe or persistent diarrhea, especially if it contains blood or mucus, to your doctor.
  • If you are very overweight, your doctor will monitor you closely for side effects.
  • This medicine can affect blood clotting test results, so always inform your doctor you are taking Daptomycin Accord Healthcare.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year old.
