How to Use

Dosage

One tablet twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take with food, in the morning and in the evening, to avoid stomach problems.

Important

Your doctor will specify the exact maximum dose, but do not take more than two tablets per day.

  • Low vitamin B12 levels in blood (symptoms: extreme tiredness, sore/red tongue, tingling, pale/yellow skin)
RARE
  • Excessive fluid loss (dehydration; symptoms: very dry/sticky mouth, little or no urine, rapid heartbeat)
  • Thirst
  • Constipation
  • Waking at night to urinate
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight loss
  • Increased creatinine in blood at the start of treatment (shown in lab tests)
  • Increased urea in blood (shown in lab tests)
  • Abnormal liver function tests, liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Skin redness (erythema), itching or itchy rash (hives)
  • Kidney inflammation (tubulointerstitial nephritis)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms of lactic acidosis such as severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, muscle cramps, extreme tiredness, or trouble breathing. This is a very rare but serious condition.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis like rapid weight loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, increased thirst, fast or deep breathing, confusion, or a sweet/fruity smell on your breath. This is a rare but serious condition.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in your genital area or around your anus, especially if you also have a fever. This could be a very rare but severe infection (Fournier's gangrene).
  • Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you have symptoms of a severe urinary tract infection, such as fever, chills, burning pain when urinating, or back/side pain. Also, tell your doctor if you see blood in your urine.
  • Contact your doctor quickly if you have symptoms of low blood sugar, especially if you take other diabetes medicines like insulin. Symptoms include shaking, sweating, intense anxiety, fast heartbeat, hunger, headache, vision changes, mood changes, or confusion.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dapagliflozin, metformin, or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have liver problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are severely dehydrated (e.g., from severe diarrhea or repeated vomiting).
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to be. This medicine is not recommended during the last six months of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have major surgery, as you might need to stop this medicine for a while before and after the operation.
  • If you need an imaging test with contrast dye, you must stop this medicine before or during the test. Your doctor will tell you when to stop and restart.
