How to Use

Dosage

Take one 10 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole or broken with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than one 10 mg tablet per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise due to liver problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shaking, sweating, feeling very worried, fast heart rate, hunger, headache, changes in vision, mood changes, or confusion (especially if taking other diabetes medicines).
  • Irritation, itching, or unusual discharge/smell in the genital area (yeast infection).
  • Back pain.
  • Peeing more often or in larger amounts.
  • Changes in cholesterol or fat levels (seen in blood tests).
  • More red blood cells (seen in blood tests).
  • Kidney function gets a little lower at the start of treatment (seen in blood tests).
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Rash on skin.
RARE
  • Feeling dehydrated (very dry mouth, little or no urine, fast heartbeat).
  • Feeling thirsty.
  • Constipation.
  • Waking up at night to pee.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Losing weight.
  • Higher levels of creatinine or urea in blood (seen in tests) at the start of treatment.
  • Inflammation of the kidneys.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to dapagliflozin or any other ingredients.
  • Call a doctor or go to the hospital right away if you feel sick to your stomach, throw up, have belly pain, are very thirsty, confused, unusually tired, have sweet-smelling breath, or lose weight fast. These could be signs of a serious problem called diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in your private parts or around your bottom, especially with a fever. This could be a very serious infection called Fournier's gangrene.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor as soon as possible if you have signs of a bad urinary tract infection, such as fever, chills, burning when you pee, or back or side pain.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you get symptoms of very low blood sugar, like shaking, sweating, feeling very worried, a fast heart rate, feeling hungry, headache, changes in vision, mood changes, or feeling confused.

  • Do not use this medicine if you have type 1 diabetes.
  • If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine. Do not use it during the last six months of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
