Important Warnings

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of your face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or hives. These could be signs of a very rare but severe allergic reaction (angioedema).
  • Contact your doctor or nearest hospital right away if you have symptoms like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, intense thirst, confusion, unusual sleepiness, sweet-smelling breath, or rapid weight loss. These could be signs of a serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis, even if your blood sugar levels are normal.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in your genital or anal area, especially if you also have a fever. These could be signs of a very rare but life-threatening infection called Fournier's gangrene.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see your doctor right away if you get a severe urinary tract infection with symptoms like fever, chills, burning when you pee, or back/side pain. Also, tell your doctor if you see blood in your urine.
  • Be aware of symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) such as shaking, sweating, intense anxiety, fast heartbeat, hunger, headache, changes in vision, mood changes, or confusion, especially if you also take insulin or other diabetes medicines that lower blood sugar. Your doctor will tell you how to manage low blood sugar.

  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have type 1 diabetes, severe kidney or liver problems, very high blood sugar with dehydration (feeling very thirsty, dry mouth, urinating less), or if you often get urinary tract infections. Also, inform your doctor if you feel sick with nausea, vomiting, or fever, as this can lead to dehydration.
