How to Use

Dosage

Dalbavancin Baxter is given by a doctor or nurse. For adults, the dose is either 1,500 mg as a single dose or 1,000 mg on day one and 500 mg on day eight. For children and infants under 18 years, the dose is based on their weight, up to a maximum of 1,500 mg.

Method

The medicine is given as an intravenous drip (into a vein) over 30 minutes.

Important

The maximum dose for a single administration is 1,500 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea, abdominal pain or discomfort, indigestion, constipation
  • Severe stomach pain and/or watery diarrhea with blood or mucus (signs of a bowel infection)
  • Vaginal infections, fungal infections, oral thrush
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Thrombocytosis (high platelets)
  • Increased eosinophils in blood
  • Low levels of other white blood cells
  • Changes in liver function tests, increased enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Dizziness
  • Taste alteration
  • Inflammation and swelling of superficial veins, redness at infusion site
  • Cough
  • Itching, hives, rash, genital itching (in women)
  • Pain, redness or swelling at the infusion site
  • Hot flush
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe rash, itching, tight throat, drop in blood pressure, difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Difficulty breathing (bronchospasm)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to dalbavancin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea or have had diarrhea with previous antibiotic treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to other antibiotics, such as vancomycin or teicoplanin.
  • If you get diarrhea during or after treatment, contact your doctor immediately. Do not take anti-diarrhea medicine without your doctor's permission.

  • Reactions such as skin redness, hives, or itching may occur during the infusion.
  • The use of antibiotics can sometimes lead to new or different infections.
  • If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor.
  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Be careful when driving or operating machinery after treatment.
