How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with half a glass of water. You can take it with or without food, at any time of day, but try to take it at the same time daily to help you remember.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Genital yeast infection (irritation, itching, unusual discharge or odor)
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Back pain
  • Increased urination or needing to urinate more often
  • Increased red blood cell count (seen in tests)
  • Decreased kidney function (seen in tests) at the start of treatment
  • Changes in cholesterol or fat levels in the blood (seen in tests)
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially when used with other diabetes medicines. Symptoms include: shaking, sweating, strong anxiety, fast heartbeat, hunger, headache, changes in vision, mood changes, or confusion.
  • Urinary tract infection. Symptoms can include fever, chills, burning sensation when urinating, or pain in the back or side.
RARE
  • Low numbers of blood clotting cells (thrombocytopenia).
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition where ketones build up in the body). Symptoms include: high ketone levels in urine or blood, rapid weight loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, intense thirst, rapid and deep breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness or tiredness, sweet-smelling breath, sweet or metallic taste in mouth, or changes in the smell of urine or sweat.
  • Fournier's gangrene (a severe infection of the genital or anal area).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dapagliflozin, sitagliptin, or any other ingredients, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to similar medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes and kidney problems, as your doctor may adjust your treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for high blood pressure and have had low blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have very high blood sugar, which can cause dehydration.

  • Contact your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, fever, or cannot eat or drink, as this can lead to dehydration.
  • Tell your doctor if you have moderate to severe liver disease.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience rapid weight loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, intense thirst, rapid breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness, sweet-smelling breath, or changes in the smell of urine or sweat. These can be signs of diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious condition.
  • This medicine is not for people with type 1 diabetes, where the body does not produce any insulin.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had or suspect a severe allergic reaction.
  • Tell your doctor if you often get urinary tract infections.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have heart failure or risk factors for it (like kidney disease) and notice symptoms such as increased shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, or swollen feet.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe joint pain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition that weakens your immune system (e.g., AIDS) or if you have had an organ transplant.
  • Contact your doctor if you get blisters on your skin, as this could be a sign of a condition called bullous pemphigoid.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in the genital or anal area, with fever or feeling unwell, as these could be signs of a serious infection called Fournier's gangrene.
