How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide how much medicine you need. It depends on your body and other treatments.

Method

The medicine is given as a drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) over 20-30 minutes, after being mixed by a healthcare professional.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low red blood cells (anemia)
  • Low white blood cells (leukopenia)
  • Low blood platelets (thrombocytopenia)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Bone marrow problems (weakened production of all blood cells)
RARE
  • Hair loss
  • Darker skin
  • Sun sensitivity (skin more sensitive to sunlight)
  • Flu-like symptoms (tiredness, chills, fever, muscle aches)
  • Infections
  • Temporary rash
  • Blurred vision
  • Liver damage
  • Low count of all blood cells
  • Very low count of certain white blood cells
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., low blood pressure, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Headache
  • Confusion
  • Lack of energy (apathy)
  • Seizures
  • Numbness, tingling, or flushing in the face shortly after injection
  • Diarrhea
  • Severe liver problems (blockage of blood vessels or liver cell death), symptoms include fever, stomach pain, enlarged liver, and yellow skin.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels
  • Kidney problems
  • Skin redness (erythema)
  • Sudden skin rashes
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Irritation at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to dacarbazine or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if your white blood cell or platelet count is low.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you are receiving the yellow fever vaccine.

  • Avoid live vaccines during treatment and for 3 months after, as this medicine weakens your immune system.
  • Do not use fotemustine if you are taking this medicine.
  • Your blood, liver, and kidney functions will be checked with tests before each dose.
  • This medicine may make you dizzy or sick, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful.
  • Do not eat right before treatment, and avoid alcohol during treatment to help prevent nausea.
