How to Use

Dosage

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not break, chew, or open the capsule, as this can increase bleeding risk.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 300 mg for adults. For children, it can vary based on weight and age, up to 600 mg. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, stomach or intestinal bleeding, blood in urine, bleeding under the skin).
  • Bruising or blood collection under the skin.
  • Indigestion or stomach pain.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Diarrhea or loose stools.
  • Reduced red blood cells, which can make you feel tired.
  • Abnormal liver function tests.
  • Allergic skin rash, which can be dark red, raised, and itchy.
  • Sudden changes in skin color and appearance.
  • Hair loss.
RARE
  • Severe bleeding, including in the brain, from surgical wounds, injection sites, or coughing up blood.
  • Severe allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Ulcers in the stomach or intestines (including the esophagus).
  • Inflammation of the esophagus or stomach.
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) due to liver or blood problems.
  • Reduced white blood cells, which can make it harder to fight infections.
  • Reduced blood platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Bleeding into a joint or from an injury.
  • Bleeding from hemorrhoids.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to dabigatran etexilate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems or are actively bleeding.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a condition that increases your risk of bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, recent brain surgery, or a tendency to bleed easily.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially other blood thinners, certain antifungal medicines, medicines for irregular heartbeats, or medicines for Hepatitis C.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an artificial heart valve that requires continuous blood thinning.
