Dabigatran etexilate Orion is a medicine that helps prevent blood clots from forming in your body.
Take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you. Doses vary based on what you are treating, your age, weight, and kidney function. For adults preventing clots after surgery, typical doses are 220 mg once daily (two 110 mg capsules), or 150 mg once daily if over 75 or with reduced kidney function. For adults treating or preventing clots due to irregular heartbeat, the typical dose is 300 mg twice daily (two 150 mg capsules), or 220 mg twice daily if over 80 or with other risk factors. For children, your doctor will determine the dose based on weight and age, taken twice daily.
Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not break, chew, or empty the capsule, as this can increase your risk of bleeding.
The maximum daily dose is usually 300 mg twice daily (600 mg total), but your doctor will tell you your exact maximum dose.
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider renal impairment, age and body weight when determining the dosage. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
