How to Use

Dosage

For 500 mg/10 microgram (400 IU) tablets: 1 tablet twice a day. For 500 mg/20 microgram (800 IU) tablets: 1 tablet once a day.

Method

You can swallow the tablet whole with water, split it, or crush it if you have trouble swallowing.

Important

Do not take more than 1000 mg of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D3 per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High calcium levels in blood or urine.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, or lips, or swelling in the throat.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Hives or difficulty breathing.
  • Constipation.
  • Bloating.
  • Nausea.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Itching.
  • Rash and hives.
  • Milk-alkali syndrome (usually with large calcium doses), symptoms include frequent urination, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, unusual tiredness or weakness, high blood calcium, and kidney problems.
  • For patients with kidney problems: high phosphate levels in blood (usually no symptoms), kidney stones, and calcium deposits in kidneys (symptoms can include blood in urine, back or stomach pain).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to calcium, vitamin D, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have too much calcium in your blood or urine, or a condition that causes high calcium levels (like an overactive parathyroid gland or certain bone cancers).
  • Do not take if you have too much vitamin D in your blood (vitamin D toxicity).
  • Do not take if you have kidney stones or calcium deposits in your kidneys.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems or kidney failure.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have sarcoidosis (a disease that affects lungs, skin, and joints).
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other vitamin D or calcium medicines.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems or a high tendency to get kidney stones.
  • Talk to your doctor if you suddenly have to stay in bed or sit for a long time.
  • D-Calsor is not for children or teenagers.
