D-Calsor is a medicine with calcium and vitamin D3 that helps build strong bones and prevents or treats calcium and vitamin D deficiency, especially for older adults and those at risk for osteoporosis.

How to Use

Dosage

For D-Calsor 500 mg/10 micrograms (400 IU) tablets, take 1 tablet twice a day. For D-Calsor 500 mg/20 micrograms (800 IU) tablets, take 1 tablet once a day.

Method

You can swallow the tablet whole, split it along the score line, or crush it, with water.

Important

Do not take more than 2 tablets of D-Calsor 500 mg/10 micrograms (400 IU) or 1 tablet of D-Calsor 500 mg/20 micrograms (800 IU) per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Too much calcium in your blood or urine.
  • Constipation, feeling bloated, feeling sick (nausea), stomach ache, diarrhea.
  • Itching, skin rash, hives (itchy red bumps on the skin).
  • Milk-alkali syndrome, with symptoms like needing to pee often, headache, not wanting to eat, feeling sick or throwing up, being very tired or weak, high calcium in the blood, and kidney problems.
  • For people with kidney problems: high phosphate in the blood (usually no symptoms), kidney stones, or calcium deposits in the kidneys (which can cause blood in your pee, back pain, or stomach pain).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take D-Calsor if you are allergic to calcium, vitamin D, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have too much calcium in your blood or urine, or a condition that causes high calcium levels (like an overactive parathyroid gland or certain bone cancers).
  • Do not take if you have too much vitamin D in your blood (vitamin D toxicity).
  • Do not take if you have kidney stones, calcium deposits in your kidneys, or severe kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have sarcoidosis (a connective tissue disease that affects lungs, skin, and joints).

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other vitamin D or calcium medicines.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are on long-term bed rest or unable to move for a long time.
  • D-Calsor is not for children or teenagers.
  • Wait at least 2 hours after eating foods high in oxalic acid (like spinach, rhubarb) or phytic acid (like whole grains) before taking D-Calsor.
  • Stop taking D-Calsor and get medical help right away if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction like swelling of your face, tongue, lips, or throat, trouble swallowing, hives, or breathing problems.
