How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. For children aged 6-17, the starting dose is usually 5 mg once daily, with a typical range of 5-20 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take Crestor once a day, with or without food, at any time of day. Try to take it at the same time each day to remember easily.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. For children aged 6-17, the maximum daily dose is 10 mg or 20 mg, depending on the condition. The 40 mg tablet is not for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Increased protein in urine (usually gets better on its own)
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar/fat, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Skin rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face, lips, tongue, and/or throat; difficulty swallowing or breathing; severe itchy rash)
  • Muscle damage in adults, potentially severe (rhabdomyolysis), causing muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain; stop taking and contact doctor if this occurs.
  • Severe stomach pain (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Increased liver enzyme values in the blood
  • Bleeding or bruising more easily than normal due to low platelet count
  • Lupus-like disease (with symptoms like rash, joint pain, and effects on blood cells)
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Small amounts of blood in urine
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (e.g., numbness)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep disorders, including insomnia and nightmares
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Tendon problems
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles) or Ocular myasthenia (muscle weakness affecting the eyes).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in Crestor.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not use if you have liver disease or severe kidney disease.
  • Stop taking Crestor and get medical help right away if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of face/throat, trouble breathing, severe itchy rash).
  • Stop taking Crestor and contact your doctor right away if you get severe skin reactions like widespread rash, blisters, or peeling skin.

  • Stop taking Crestor and contact your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain that lasts, muscle weakness, or symptoms like lupus (rash, joint pain, blood cell effects).
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially if you need to take fusidic acid for an infection, as Crestor might need to be stopped temporarily.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
