Creon contains pancreatic enzymes that help your body digest food when your own pancreas doesn't produce enough.
Your doctor will prescribe the dose, which is typically 25,000–80,000 lipase units per meal; for a snack, the dose is half of that. For children under 4 years, the dose is 1000 lipase units/kg per meal, and for those over 4 years, 500 lipase units/kg per meal.
Take the capsules with or immediately after a meal or snack, and swallow them whole. Do not crush or chew them. If swallowing is difficult, you can open the capsule and mix the contents with a small amount of soft, acidic food or liquid, such as yogurt or applesauce, and swallow immediately.
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. If you have cystic fibrosis and take more than 10,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per day, tell your doctor if you have unusual stomach symptoms.
