How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for most people is one Cozaar Comp 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two Cozaar Comp 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets once a day, or one Cozaar Comp Forte 100 mg/25 mg tablet once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough, stuffy nose, sinus problems.
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, indigestion.
  • Muscle pain or cramps, leg pain, back pain.
  • Trouble sleeping, headache, dizziness.
  • Feeling weak, tired, chest pain.
  • High potassium in blood (can cause irregular heartbeat), low blood iron.
  • Kidney problems, including less kidney function.
  • Low blood sugar.
RARE
  • Anemia (low red blood cells), red/brown spots on skin, bruising, low white blood cells or platelets.
  • Loss of appetite, high uric acid (can cause gout), high blood sugar, changes in body salts.
  • Feeling worried, nervous, panic attacks, confusion, sadness, strange dreams, sleep problems, feeling sleepy, memory loss.
  • Tingling or numbness, pain in arms or legs, shaking, migraine, fainting.
  • Blurred vision, burning/stinging eyes, eye infection, poorer eyesight, seeing yellow.
  • Ringing in ears, spinning dizziness.
  • Low blood pressure (feeling dizzy when standing up), chest pain, irregular heartbeat, stroke, heart attack, fast heartbeat, inflamed blood vessels (with rash or bruises).
  • Sore throat, shortness of breath, bronchitis, lung infection, fluid in lungs (trouble breathing), nosebleeds, runny nose.
  • Constipation (severe), gas, stomach upset, cramps, vomiting, dry mouth, inflamed salivary glands, toothache, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), inflamed pancreas.
  • Hives, itching, skin rash/redness, sensitive skin in sunlight, dry skin, flushing, sweating, hair loss.
  • Joint pain (arms, shoulders, hips, knees), swollen joints, stiff joints, weak muscles.
  • Needing to urinate often at night, changes in kidney function (including inflammation, infection), sugar in urine, less sex drive, erectile problems.
  • Swelling in face or other body parts, fever.
  • Swelling in the intestines with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
  • Liver inflammation, abnormal liver test results.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark (tea-colored) urine (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia).
  • General feeling of being unwell.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma).
  • Worsening vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure (fluid build-up in the eye or a type of glaucoma).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any sulfonamide medicines (like some antibiotics), or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant for more than 3 months, as it can harm your baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to be.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney problems, or if your kidneys cannot make urine.
  • Do not take if you have untreated low potassium or sodium, or high calcium levels in your blood.
  • Do not take if you have gout.

  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you notice vision changes or eye pain. These could be serious and need quick medical help.
  • Get urgent medical help if you have severe shortness of breath or trouble breathing after taking this medicine, especially if it happened before with hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light while taking this medicine, as it may increase your risk of certain skin cancers. Tell your doctor if you have had skin cancer or notice any new skin changes.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
