Coversyl Novum is a medicine that relaxes blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to pump blood. It is used to treat high blood pressure and to reduce the risk of heart events in patients with stable coronary artery disease.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your correct dose. Typically, treatment starts with 5 mg once daily. For those over 65, the starting dose may be 2.5 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water every morning before a meal, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Tingling sensation
  • Vision problems
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach problems (nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, changes in taste, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation)
  • Skin rash and itching
  • Muscle cramps
  • Tiredness
  • Severe dizziness or fainting due to low blood pressure
RARE
  • Swelling of face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat with breathing problems (angioedema)
  • Unusually fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain or heart attack
  • Weakness or speech problems (possible signs of a stroke)
  • Sudden wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin rash, often red and itchy (erythema multiforme)
  • Depression or mood changes
  • Sleep problems
  • Dry mouth
  • Severe itching or skin blisters
  • Kidney problems or reduced/absent urine output
  • Impotence
  • Sweating
  • Increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell)
  • Drowsiness or fainting
  • Palpitations (pounding heart) or fast heartbeat
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis)
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, or general chest pain
  • Feeling unwell, swollen limbs, fever, or falls
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., high potassium, low sodium, low blood sugar for diabetics, high urea/creatinine, high liver enzymes, high bilirubin)
  • Dark urine, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, confusion, and convulsions (possible signs of SIADH)
  • Flushing or worsening of psoriasis
  • Stuffy or runny nose (rhinitis)
  • Changes in blood counts (low white and red blood cells, low hemoglobin, low platelets)
  • Discoloration, numbness, and pain in fingers or toes (Raynaud's phenomenon)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to perindopril, other ACE inhibitors, or any ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family have ever had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) causing swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Do not use if you are more than three months pregnant or planning pregnancy, as this medicine can harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a medicine called aliskiren.
  • Do not use if you are on dialysis or any other treatment that filters your blood.

  • Do not use if you are taking a combination medicine containing sacubitril and valsartan (for heart failure), as it increases the risk of angioedema.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, or if you are on a low-salt diet or use potassium supplements.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
