Coveram is a medicine for high blood pressure and stable coronary artery disease. It works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels to improve blood flow.

How to Use

Dosage

Usually one tablet once a day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably in the morning before food, and at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Swelling (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Tiredness (especially at the start of treatment)
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Numbness or tingling in arms or legs
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Awareness of your heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Reddening of the face and neck (flushing)
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Changes in taste
  • Indigestion or upset stomach
  • Changes in bowel habits (diarrhoea or constipation)
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Weakness
  • Swelling of ankles or feet (peripheral oedema)
RARE
  • Mood changes, anxiety, depression, trouble sleeping
  • Tremors, fainting, loss of sensation
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Hair loss, red patches, skin discolouration, blistering skin, increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, chest pain
  • Urination problems (increased urge, especially at night, frequent urination, painful urination)
  • Feeling generally unwell, fever, falls
  • Tightness in chest, wheezing, shortness of breath (bronchospasm), dry mouth
  • Angioedema (swelling of face, tongue or throat with breathing difficulties)
  • Kidney problems, impotence, increased sweating
  • Increased a type of white blood cell (eosinophils), altered blood counts (e.g., low white/red blood cells, low haemoglobin, low platelets)
  • Breast discomfort or enlargement in men
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Fast heart rate (tachycardia), inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis)
  • Acute kidney failure; SIADH symptoms (dark urine, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, confusion, seizures)
  • Worsening of psoriasis
  • Liver problems (abnormal function, inflammation, yellowing of skin, increased liver enzymes)
  • Serious heart issues (angina, heart attack, stroke)
  • Rare lung inflammation (eosinophilic pneumonia)
  • Severe skin reactions (including severe rash, hives, widespread redness, intense itching, blisters, peeling skin, inflammation of mucous membranes like Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Abdominal swelling (gastritis)
  • Nerve issues (weakness, tingling, numbness, increased muscle tension)
  • Swelling of the gums
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycaemia)
  • Stiff posture, mask-like face, slow and shuffling movements, unsteady gait, discoloration, numbness and pain in fingers or toes (Raynaud's phenomenon)

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to perindopril, amlodipine, any other ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker, or any other ingredient in Coveram.
  • If you are more than 3 months pregnant (it is also best to avoid Coveram during early pregnancy).
  • If you have had severe allergic reactions (like wheezing, swelling of the face or tongue, severe itching, or skin rashes, called angioedema) from previous ACE inhibitor treatment, or if you or your family have had these symptoms in other situations.
  • If you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • If you have narrowing of a heart valve (aortic stenosis) or cardiogenic shock (a condition where your heart cannot pump enough blood to your body).

  • If you have very low blood pressure (hypotension).
  • If you have heart failure after a heart attack.
  • If you are on dialysis or any other type of blood filtration treatment, as Coveram may not be suitable for you.
  • If you have kidney problems where the blood flow to your kidneys is reduced (renal artery stenosis).
  • If you are taking or have recently taken a combination medicine containing sacubitril and valsartan (for heart failure), due to an increased risk of angioedema.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include ankle oedema and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
