Coveram

Coveram treats high blood pressure and stable coronary artery disease. It combines two medicines, perindopril and amlodipine, for those already taking them separately.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually one tablet per day.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, preferably at the same time each day, in the mornings before a meal.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Swelling, especially in your ankles (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Numbness or tingling in your hands and feet
  • Vision changes, like double vision
  • Ringing in your ears (tinnitus)
  • Feeling your heart beat fast or flushing (red face)
  • Cough or shortness of breath
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, changes in bowel habits (diarrhoea or constipation), indigestion, or altered taste
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Muscle cramps, weakness, or tiredness (especially when you start taking the medicine)
RARE
  • Mental changes (like mood changes, anxiety, depression, sleep problems)
  • Tremors, fainting, or loss of pain sensation
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Hair loss, red skin patches, skin discoloration, blistering, increased sensitivity to sunlight; severe widespread rashes like hives, peeling skin, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or erythema multiforme
  • Back pain, muscle pain, or joint pain; chest pain (not a serious heart event); or general pain
  • Problems urinating, including an increased need to urinate at night
  • Feeling generally unwell or fever
  • Chest tightness or wheezing (bronchospasm); or dry mouth
  • Kidney problems, including serious acute kidney failure or dark urine with nausea and confusion (SIADH)
  • Impotence or increased sweating
  • Breast discomfort or enlargement in men; or changes in weight
  • Inflamed blood vessels (vasculitis)
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., high potassium, low sodium, low blood sugar, altered liver enzymes, high bilirubin)
  • Worsening of psoriasis
  • Serious heart and blood vessel problems (like heart attack or stroke)
  • Lung inflammation (eosinophilic pneumonia)
  • Blood disorders (low white or red blood cells, low hemoglobin, low platelets)
  • Severe stomach and back pain from pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), with severe sickness
  • Liver problems (hepatitis) or yellowing of the skin (jaundice)
  • Stomach inflammation (gastritis)
  • Nerve issues (weakness, tingling, numbness, stiff muscles, swollen gums, or high blood sugar)
  • Parkinson's-like symptoms (stiff body, mask-like face, slow or shuffling walk); or discoloration, numbness, and pain in fingers or toes (Raynaud's phenomenon)

Important Warnings

  • If you get sudden wheezing, chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling of your eyelids, face, lips, tongue or throat (making it hard to breathe), severe skin reactions (like widespread rash, hives, blistering, peeling skin, mouth sores), severe dizziness or fainting, heart attack, very fast heartbeat, or severe stomach/back pain with sickness (pancreatitis), stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to perindopril, amlodipine, other similar medicines (ACE inhibitors or calcium channel blockers), or any other ingredient in Coveram.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant (especially after 3 months) or breastfeeding, or if you plan to become pregnant. Coveram is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema) before, either from an ACE inhibitor or for other reasons.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a medicine called aliskiren.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe low blood pressure, heart valve narrowing (aortic stenosis), or your heart cannot pump enough blood (cardiogenic shock), or heart failure after a heart attack.
  • Tell your doctor if you are on dialysis or have serious kidney problems where blood flow to your kidneys is reduced (renal artery stenosis).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken a medicine that contains sacubitril and valsartan (for heart failure), as this increases the risk of angioedema.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit, as it can make the medicine stronger and lead to an unexpected drop in blood pressure.
  • This medicine can make you feel sick, dizzy, weak, tired, or give you a headache. If you feel this way, do not drive or use machines and contact your doctor.
  • Coveram contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include ankle oedema and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
