How to Use

Dosage

If you weigh 60 kg or more, the usual dose is 1 mg (one 10 ml vial) given over 10 minutes. If you weigh less than 60 kg, your dose might be adjusted. A second dose can be given if needed after 10 minutes.

Method

Corvert is given as an infusion into a vein by a healthcare professional in a hospital.

Important

A maximum of two doses may be given during a single treatment session if the first dose is not effective after 10 minutes.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Different types of irregular heart rhythms (fast or slow heart rate)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Changes in your ECG
RARE
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Ventricular fibrillation (severe irregular heartbeat)
  • Atrial fibrillation (another type of irregular heartbeat)
  • Widening of blood vessels
  • High blood pressure
  • Sudden kidney failure

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Corvert if you are allergic to ibutilide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain types of irregular heart rhythms (like torsades de pointes), have had a heart attack in the last month, have a long QT interval, AV block, or sick sinus syndrome.
  • Do not use if you have symptoms of heart failure.
  • Do not use if you have low potassium or magnesium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines for heart rhythm problems. You should not take Corvert with some of these, or within 4 hours after treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Corvert should only be used if clearly necessary during pregnancy, and breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
