How to Use

Dosage

For acute gout, typically 1 tablet 2-3 times daily (your doctor may add 2 extra on the first day). For gout prevention, 1-2 tablets daily in the evening. For hereditary Mediterranean fever, 2-6 tablets daily.

Method

Swallow Colrefuz tablets whole with a glass of water.

Important

For acute gout, do not exceed 5 tablets on the first day and a total of 12 tablets per treatment course. For hereditary Mediterranean fever, do not exceed 6 tablets per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach cramps
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Muscle weakness or pain, red or brown colored urine (signs of muscle breakdown)
  • Fever and infection symptoms (e.g., severe sore throat, mouth sores)
  • Severe anemia (aplastic anemia)
  • Hair loss
  • Skin rash
  • Reduced sperm count or total absence of sperm
  • Nerve problems (neuropathy) causing pain, numbness, or poor nerve function
  • Missed periods (at least 6 months) or menstrual pain/cramps
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Liver damage

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to colchicine or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe blood problems, severe kidney disease, or severe liver disease.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, or diarrhea, as these can be signs of taking too much medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get fever, severe sore throat, mouth sores, easy bleeding, bruises, or skin problems, as these can be signs of serious blood issues.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

  • This medicine may make you drowsy or dizzy; do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
  • Men should not father children during treatment and for at least 6 months after stopping the medicine. Women should use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 3 months after stopping the medicine.
