How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, starting with a low amount and slowly increasing it. The usual daily dose for schizophrenia is between 200 mg and 450 mg, and for Parkinson's related problems, it is usually 25-37.5 mg in the evening.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Your doctor will tell you exactly how to take it, including if you need to split tablets.

Important

Do not take more than 900 mg in a single day for schizophrenia. For Parkinson's related problems, do not take more than 100 mg in a single day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness or feeling sleepy
  • Dizziness or feeling light-headed
  • Increased saliva
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Severe constipation
  • Weight gain
  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Shaking or tremors
  • Stiffness or rigid muscles
  • Restlessness
  • Seizures or fits
  • High blood pressure
  • Feeling faint or unsteady when standing up
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Fever or increased body temperature
RARE
  • Sudden high fever with stiff muscles, which can lead to unconsciousness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
  • Low white blood cell count (agranulocytosis)
  • Trouble speaking or stuttering
  • Infections or pneumonia (lung infection) with symptoms like fever, cough, or trouble breathing
  • Severe, burning pain in the upper stomach that spreads to the back, with nausea and vomiting (due to pancreas inflammation)
  • Fainting and muscle weakness due to a sudden drop in blood pressure
  • Trouble swallowing, which can cause food to go down the wrong pipe
  • Signs of obesity or increased fatness
  • Breathing pauses during sleep, with or without snoring
  • Fast and irregular heartbeats even at rest, palpitations, trouble breathing, chest pain, or unexplained tiredness (may require urgent heart check-up)
  • Prolonged and painful erection of the penis (priapism), seek medical help if it lasts over 4 hours.
  • Easy bleeding or bruising (a sign of low platelets)
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar, such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, intense thirst, frequent urination, confusion.
  • Yellow skin, dark urine, or itching (signs of liver disease)
  • Swelling, mainly of the face, mouth, throat, and tongue, which can be itchy or painful (allergic reaction)
  • Very intense and severe skin reactions like rashes with blisters, irritation, swelling, fever, and flu-like symptoms (DRESS syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to clozapine or any of its ingredients.
  • You must have regular blood tests to check your white blood cells. Do not take this medicine if you cannot get these tests.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have had a low white blood cell count caused by medicines in the past.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart disease, or uncontrolled seizures.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you get flu-like symptoms, fever, sore throat, or other signs of infection, as you will need an urgent blood test.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a sudden high fever with stiff muscles or become unconscious.
  • Seek immediate medical help if your heart beats fast or irregularly, or you feel chest pain or unexplained tiredness.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have very bad constipation, stomach pain, fever, or bloody diarrhea.
