Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a muscle or directly into a vein, either as an injection or an infusion (drip). It will be given by a doctor or nurse.

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, loose stools
  • Skin rash
  • Inflammation of a vein after injection
  • Pain at the injection site (muscle injection)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, including redness, itching, hives, swelling of the face/skin, trouble breathing, dizziness, fever, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and organ effects (DRESS syndrome).
  • A large decrease in certain white blood cells (granulocytes or leukocytes), making you more prone to infections.
  • Severe inflammation of the large intestine (pseudomembranous colitis), causing severe diarrhea.
  • Liver damage.
  • Kidney damage or inflammation.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), which can affect blood clotting.
  • Vomiting.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Cloxacillin Stragen if you are allergic to cloxacillin, other penicillins, or cephalosporins.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • This medicine can cause changes in your mental state, like confusion or problems with movement or speech, especially if you take too much or have kidney problems. Contact a doctor immediately if this happens.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • This medicine is for you only. Do not give it to others, even if they have similar symptoms.
