Method

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine as a shot into a muscle or vein, or as a drip into a vein.

Important

Your doctor or nurse will tell you the highest amount you can get in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain and swelling where the shot was given (vein inflammation)
  • Feeling sick to your stomach
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin rash
RARE
  • A very bad allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with symptoms like red skin, hives, trouble breathing, and feeling dizzy.
  • Changes in your blood (like too many or too few white blood cells, too few red blood cells, or too few platelets which can cause bleeding).
  • Serious swelling in your large intestine (colitis), causing severe stomach pain and diarrhea.
  • Liver problems.
  • Kidney problems or inflammation.
  • Fungal infections in the mouth or genital area.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema).
  • A severe skin reaction called DRESS syndrome, with a widespread rash, fever, tiredness, and swollen glands.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to cloxacillin or any other penicillin medicines.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to cephalosporins (another type of antibiotic).
  • Tell your doctor if your kidneys are not working well.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or get diarrhea.
