This medicine is an antibiotic (cloxacillin) used to treat serious bacterial infections like skin infections, heart inflammation, bone infections, and blood poisoning.
For adults, usually 0.5-1 gram four times a day into a muscle, or 1-2 grams three to four times a day into a vein, or 2 grams four to six times a day as a short drip into a vein. For children, the dose depends on their weight: 50 mg/kg per day in 4 doses into a muscle, or 100 mg/kg per day (or more) in 4-6 doses into a vein.
This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a muscle or vein, or as a drip (infusion) into a vein.
The usual maximum daily dose is 6 grams as a continuous infusion into a vein, which can be increased to 12 grams for severe infections.
