How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine your dose individually. One injection typically contains 150 micrograms of clonidine hydrochloride.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin, into a muscle, or as an infusion into a vein. It is given while you are lying down.

Important

Up to four doses per day.

  • slow heart rate
  • cold fingers and toes (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • skin reactions (rash, itching, hives)
  • general feeling of unwellness
  • heart block (problems with nerve impulses in the heart)
  • high blood sugar
  • decreased tear production
  • dry nose
  • false blockage of the large intestine
  • hair loss
  • breast enlargement in men
  • decreased sex drive
  • confusion
  • vision problems (difficulty focusing)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Clotaxip if you are allergic to clonidine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Clotaxip if you have a very slow heart rate due to a heart conduction disorder.
  • Do not use Clotaxip if your blood pressure is low (hypotension).
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, dizzy, or cause vision problems. Do not drive or use machines for 4-6 hours after taking a dose if you experience these effects.
  • Clotaxip is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

  • If you are pregnant, your doctor will decide if this medicine is necessary as clonidine can slow the fetal heart rate.
  • Clotaxip is not recommended during breastfeeding.
