How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 1 to 2 grams of fats per kilogram of your body weight each day.

Method

This medicine is given directly into a vein through a small plastic tube, called an IV infusion.

Important

Do not take more than 2 grams of fats per kilogram of your body weight in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood sugar
  • Feeling sick or throwing up
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Fewer white blood cells
  • Trouble breathing
  • Swollen or painful stomach
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) or high bilirubin from bile duct problems
  • Higher liver enzymes or fat levels in your blood
  • Fewer platelets (blood clotting cells)
  • Chills
  • Allergic reactions (like an itchy red rash or itching)
  • Sweating
  • Headache

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredients in it.
  • Do not use if you have too much fat in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have an uncontrolled problem with how your body uses sugar or fats, like severe diabetes or too much acid in your blood.
  • If you get signs of an allergic reaction, such as sweating, fever, chills, headache, a rash, or trouble breathing, stop the infusion right away and tell your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you feel sick, vomit, have stomach pain, or if your skin or eyes turn yellow, as these can be signs of liver problems.

  • Let your doctor know if the area where the IV is inserted becomes swollen, sore, or red, as this might be a sign of a vein irritation.
