How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, weight, height, medical condition, and daily needs for fluids, nitrogen, and energy.

Method

It is an infusion solution given directly into a vein through a plastic tube, usually in your arm or chest. Remember to mix the contents of the bag thoroughly before use.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 ml per kilogram of body weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High levels of glucose, ammonia, and nitrogen compounds in the blood
  • Impaired liver function, abnormal liver test results
  • Gallbladder inflammation, gallstones
  • Vein inflammation at the infusion site, vein irritation, pain, warmth, swelling
  • Glucose in urine
  • Diabetic coma
  • Formation of small particles blocking blood vessels in the lungs
RARE
  • Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction that develops quickly and can be life-threatening)
  • Hypotension (abnormally low blood pressure)
  • Hypertension (abnormally high blood pressure)
  • Peripheral cyanosis (bluish skin)
  • Tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate)
  • Dyspnea (difficulty breathing)
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Urticaria (hives)
  • Rash
  • Pruritus (itching)
  • Erythema (redness)
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Pyrexia (fever)
  • Chills
  • Tremors (shaking)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Clinimix if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use Clinimix if your body has problems processing amino acids.
  • Do not use Clinimix if you have very high blood sugar (severe hyperglycemia).
  • Do not use Clinimix if you have very acidic blood (metabolic acidosis).
  • Do not use Clinimix if you have too much sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, or phosphate in your blood.

  • Clinimix should not be given with ceftriaxone (an antibiotic) to babies younger than 28 days because particles can form.
  • If you get signs of an allergic reaction like fever, chills, rash, trouble breathing, sweating, nausea, or headache, tell your doctor or nurse right away. The infusion must be stopped.
  • There is a risk of infection from the tube inserted into your vein. Medical staff will monitor for signs of infection.
  • For newborns and children under 2 years old, the solution must be protected from light until the infusion is finished.
  • Do not connect bags in series; this can cause air to enter your bloodstream.
