How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, weight, and health condition. The infusion rate is usually increased gradually.

This medicine is given as an infusion into a vein in your arm or chest. The contents of the bag must be mixed before use.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High levels of glucose, ammonia, or nitrogen compounds in the blood
  • Worsening liver function, abnormal liver test results
  • Gallbladder inflammation, gallstones
  • Vein inflammation at the infusion site, irritation, pain, warmth, swelling
  • Glucose in urine
  • Diabetic coma
RARE
  • Anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction)
  • Formation of small particles that block blood vessels in the lungs

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine.
  • The contents of the two parts of the bag must be mixed before you receive the medicine.
  • Do not use if you have very high blood sugar or very acidic blood.
  • Do not use if your blood levels of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, or phosphate are too high.
  • For children under 28 days old, this medicine cannot be given at the same time as the antibiotic ceftriaxone, as harmful particles can form.

  • If you get signs of an allergic reaction (like fever, chills, rash, trouble breathing, sweating, nausea, or headache), tell your doctor or nurse right away. The infusion must be stopped.
  • Your doctor will closely check your condition if you have liver, kidney, adrenal gland, heart, or blood circulation problems.
  • If you experience any problems like irritation in the vein, the infusion must be stopped.
  • If you are severely malnourished, your doctor will start the nutrition slowly to prevent refeeding syndrome.
  • Do not connect multiple bags together as this can cause air to enter your bloodstream.
  • Your blood sugar levels will be checked regularly, especially if you have diabetes or problems with blood sugar control.
