How to Use

Dosage

Adults and adolescents (over 12 years): 1200-2700 mg daily, divided into 2-4 equal doses. Children (1 month to 12 years): 15-40 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into 3-4 equal doses.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a muscle or as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein by a doctor or nurse. Fast injections into a vein should be avoided; infusions into a vein should take 10-60 minutes.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose for adults and adolescents (over 12 years) is 2700 mg, but up to 4800 mg may be given for life-threatening infections. For children, the maximum daily dose should not exceed the adult dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea
  • Vein inflammation (thrombophlebitis)
  • Skin rash (widespread rash with small bumps), hives
  • Abnormal liver function test results
RARE
  • Nerve and muscle problems (neuromuscular block), altered taste
  • Pain and pus formation (abscess) at the injection site
  • Itching
  • Vaginal inflammation (vaginitis)
  • Joint pain or tenderness (polyarthritis)
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Irritation at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as sudden wheezing, difficulty breathing, dizziness, swelling of the eyelids, face, throat, rash, or itching, especially all over your body.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you get severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhea during or up to two months after treatment, as this could be a sign of a serious bowel inflammation.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe skin reactions like blisters and peeling skin, fever, cough, nausea, or swelling of your gums, tongue, or lips.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience swelling in your legs, ankles, or feet, shortness of breath, or nausea due to fluid retention, as these may be signs of kidney problems.

  • Be aware of a sudden drop in blood pressure (causing drowsiness, dizziness, fainting) if the injection is given too quickly; rarely, cardiac arrest can occur.
  • Report to your doctor if you experience more frequent infections with symptoms like fever, severe chills, sore throat, or mouth sores, which might indicate a low white blood cell count.
  • If you use this medicine for more than 10 days, your doctor will regularly check your blood count, and your liver and kidney function.
  • Long-term use of Clindamycin Noridem can lead to new infections of the skin or mucous membranes by bacteria not sensitive to clindamycin, or fungal infections.
  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine, as it can pass into breast milk. If you are pregnant or planning to be, discuss with your doctor.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, tiredness, or headache. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
