How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how many tablets to take. For adults and teens over 14, it's usually 4 to 12 tablets daily, split into several doses. For children (over 4 weeks to 14 years), the dose depends on their weight, also split into several doses.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water, preferably a glass of water. Do not chew them.

Important

For adults and teens over 14, the most you can take in a day is 1.8 grams of clindamycin. Your doctor will tell you the exact maximum for children based on their weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Throwing up (vomiting)
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Changes in blood tests (like low platelets or white blood cells)
  • Fever caused by the medicine
  • Very serious allergic reaction (like face and throat swelling, trouble breathing, or feeling faint)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Changes in how things taste or smell
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Severe gut infection causing watery diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain (colitis)
  • Swelling or soreness in your food pipe, tongue, or mouth
  • Small, temporary changes in liver tests
  • Temporary liver swelling with yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Allergic skin reactions (like rashes, itching, hives)
  • Swelling (e.g., in your face or limbs)
  • Very bad skin rashes with blisters (like severe sunburn or peeling skin)
  • Itching, discharge from the vagina, flaky or blistering skin
  • Swelling in joints
  • Pain and swelling in many joints

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, muscle diseases like myasthenia gravis or Parkinson's, or a history of severe bowel issues.
  • Get immediate medical help if you experience a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of your face, throat, or trouble breathing.
  • If you get severe watery diarrhea, fever, or stomach cramps, especially with blood or mucus, stop the medicine and contact your doctor right away. Do not take other diarrhea medicines without asking your doctor.
  • For treatments longer than three weeks, your doctor will regularly check your blood, liver, and kidney.

  • If you notice swollen legs or feet, shortness of breath, or feel sick, contact your doctor right away as these could be signs of kidney problems.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine or change your dose without your doctor's advice, even if you feel better, to prevent the infection from returning.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or drowsiness, which might affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
