How to Use

Dosage

Take one Clastec 150 mg tablet once a month.

Method

Choose one day each month to take your tablet. Take it in the morning, at least 6 hours after your last food or drink (other than plain water), and before you eat or drink anything else. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass (at least 180 ml) of plain water. Do not chew, crush, or let it dissolve in your mouth. Do not lie down for 60 minutes after taking it. Do not eat, drink anything (except plain water if needed), or take other medicines for at least one hour after taking Clastec.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 150 mg tablet per month. Never take two tablets in the same week.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Heartburn, pain when swallowing, stomach ache (possibly due to stomach inflammation), indigestion, nausea, diarrhea (loose stools)
  • Muscle cramps, stiffness in joints and limbs
  • Flu-like symptoms including fever, shaking, chills, discomfort, bone pain, sore muscles and joints. Talk to your nurse or doctor if symptoms are severe or last for more than a few days.
  • Rash
RARE
  • Dizziness
  • Flatulence (gas, bloating)
  • Back pain
  • Feeling tired and fatigued
  • Asthma attacks
  • Itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat, with difficulty breathing (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
  • Persistent eye pain and inflammation.
  • Ear pain, ear discharge, and/or ear infection (could be signs of bone damage in the ear).
  • Severe skin reactions.
  • Inflammation in the first part of the small intestine causing stomach pain.
  • Hives (itchy rash).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Clastec if you are allergic to ibandronic acid or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Clastec if you have certain problems with your esophagus (food pipe), like narrowing or difficulty swallowing.
  • Do not take Clastec if you cannot stand or sit upright for at least one hour (60 minutes).
  • Do not take Clastec if you have or have had low calcium levels in your blood. Talk to your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you have any mouth or jaw problems, such as pain, swelling, loose teeth, or slow-healing sores. These could be signs of a serious jaw condition (osteonecrosis).

  • Report any new pain, weakness, or discomfort in your thigh, hip, or groin to your doctor, as this could be an early sign of an unusual thigh bone fracture.
  • If you experience severe chest pain, pain when swallowing food or drinks, or severe nausea and vomiting, stop taking Clastec and contact your doctor immediately. This could be signs of irritation or ulcers in your food pipe.
  • Clastec is only for women past menopause and should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Clastec should not be given to children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • If you accidentally take too many tablets, drink a full glass of milk and contact your doctor or poison control center right away. Do not try to make yourself vomit or lie down.
