How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 0.1 mmol per kg of body weight (0.2 ml per kg).

Method

The medicine is given as an injection into a vein by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinic.

Important

You will usually receive only one dose per MRI scan, and another dose should not be given for at least 7 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Headache
  • Unusual taste in mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Tingling, warm or cold sensation, and/or pain
  • Low or high blood pressure
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash
  • Weakness
  • Injection site reactions (discomfort, coldness, swelling, or inflammation)
RARE
  • Anxiety, feeling weak or faint
  • Swollen eyelids
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Sneezing
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Increased salivation
  • Hives, itching, sweating
  • Chest pain, chills
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Convulsions, fainting, tremor, changes in sense of smell
  • Vision changes (red eyes, blurred vision, increased tears)
  • Severe breathing difficulties (wheezing, cough, feeling of tightness in throat, throat swelling)
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, back pain
  • General malaise, fever, facial swelling, tissue damage at injection site
  • Decreased oxygen in blood

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Clariscan if you are allergic to gadoteric acid, any other ingredients in this medicine, or other contrast agents used for MRI scans.
  • Make sure to remove all metal objects from your body before the MRI scan.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, asthma, allergies (e.g., seafood, hay fever, hives), heart conditions (e.g., severe heart disease, taking beta-blockers), epilepsy or seizures, or if you have metal implants, a pacemaker, or any other metal objects in your body (especially in the eye).
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning a baby, inform your doctor. Clariscan should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary.
  • If you are breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor whether you should continue or stop breastfeeding for 24 hours after receiving Clariscan.

  • This medicine may cause dizziness or nausea. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel unwell after the scan.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of your face, mouth, or throat (making it hard to swallow or breathe), swelling of hands or feet, feeling dizzy or lightheaded (low blood pressure), breathing difficulties, wheezing, coughing, itching, runny nose, sneezing, eye irritation, or hives.
