How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 0.1 mmol per kilogram of your body weight (0.2 ml per kg).

Method

A healthcare professional will give you Clariscan as an injection directly into a vein.

Important

You will receive only one dose per MRI scan. You should not get another dose within 7 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Allergic reactions (like a rash or itching)
  • Headaches
  • Unusual taste in your mouth
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Tingling, warm or cold feeling, or pain
  • Low or high blood pressure
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
  • Stomach pain
  • Skin rash
  • Feeling hot or cold
  • Feeling weak
  • Discomfort, pain, coldness, or swelling at the injection site, or medicine leaking out of the vein, which can cause redness and local pain
RARE
  • Feeling anxious or faint (like you might pass out)
  • Swelling of eyelids
  • Fast or strong heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Sneezing
  • Vomiting (throwing up)
  • Diarrhea
  • More saliva in your mouth
  • Hives, itching, or sweating
  • Chest pain or chills
  • Very serious allergic reactions, like anaphylactic shock (which can be life-threatening), or severe agitation
  • Coma, seizures, fainting, changes in your sense of smell, or shaking
  • Eye inflammation, red eyes, blurry vision, or watery eyes
  • Heart stopping, irregular heartbeat, or paleness
  • Trouble breathing, fluid in the lungs, wheezing, stuffy nose, cough, dry throat, or swelling in your throat
  • Skin redness, or swelling of your lips or mouth
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, or back pain
  • General discomfort, chest discomfort, fever, facial swelling, or tissue damage at the injection site
  • Low oxygen levels in your blood

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Clariscan if you are allergic to gadoteric acid, any other ingredients in Clariscan, or any other contrast dyes used for MRI scans.
  • Remove all metal items from your body before the MRI scan.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to any contrast dye before, have asthma or other allergies (like hay fever or hives), have kidney or liver problems, have had a liver transplant, have had seizures or epilepsy, or have severe heart or blood vessel disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a pacemaker, metal clips, implants, insulin pump, or any other metallic object in your body, especially in your eyes. MRI might not be safe for you.
  • You will be watched closely for at least 30 minutes after getting Clariscan to check for any reactions.

  • Clariscan should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
  • If you are breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor whether to continue breastfeeding or stop for 24 hours after your dose.
  • If you feel dizzy or sick after the scan, do not drive or use machines.
