How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical dose is 1–5 ml (30–150 mg prilocaine hydrochloride). For children under 10 years, it is 1–2 ml (30–60 mg prilocaine hydrochloride). Your dentist will determine the exact dose for you.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into your mouth by your dentist. The injection will be given slowly and carefully.

Important

Your dentist will decide your dose individually based on your treatment. There is no fixed maximum daily dose for this medication in the patient information leaflet.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including severe allergic reactions like anaphylactic shock.

  • Prolonged numbness or altered sensation (e.g., tingling or decreased feeling) in the treated area.

  • Methemoglobinemia (a rare blood disorder where your blood cannot carry oxygen well), which may lead to cyanosis (a bluish discoloration of the skin or lips).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to amide-type local anesthetics (like this one) or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have methemoglobinemia, a rare blood condition.
  • Tell your dentist if you have a heart conduction problem (e.g., heart block) or are taking certain heart medicines (especially Class III antiarrhythmics).
  • Inform your dentist if you have severe liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, severe heart disease, severe anemia, circulation problems, or any other illness.
  • Discuss with your dentist if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, even though no harm to the baby has been observed with this medicine.

  • Small amounts of this medicine may pass into breast milk, but it is unlikely to harm your baby when used as directed.
  • This medicine may slightly affect how you think and temporarily reduce your ability to move and coordinate. Be careful when driving or using machines after receiving it.
  • Tell your dentist about all other medicines you are taking or have recently taken, including over-the-counter medicines, to avoid interactions.
