How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose and how often you get it. Typically, a dose is 50-120 mg per square meter of body surface (mg/m²) every 3-4 weeks, or 15-20 mg/m² daily for five days every 3-4 weeks.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip directly into a vein (infusion) over 6-8 hours by a specialist.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced bone marrow function (fewer blood cells), which can increase the risk of infection, bruising, and bleeding, and cause weakness.
  • Decreased sodium levels in the blood.
  • Fever.
  • Severe pain or swelling in a leg, chest pain, or breathing difficulties (may be a sign of a blood clot).
  • Fast, irregular, or slow heartbeat.
  • Sepsis (blood poisoning).
RARE
  • Hearing problems or ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Decreased magnesium levels in the blood.
  • Abnormal sperm production.
  • Increased risk of acute leukemia.
  • Seizures or fainting.
  • Headache, confusion, vision loss, or other brain function problems (like speech difficulties, memory loss, paralysis).
  • Heart attack or cardiac arrest.
  • Inflammation of the mouth lining.
  • Nerve damage (tingling, itching, numbness, loss of taste/touch/vision, sudden sharp pain).
  • Infection symptoms (such as sore throat).
  • Anemia where red blood cells are destroyed too quickly (hemolytic anemia).
  • Problems with a hormone that regulates fluid and salt balance, which can cause swelling or low blood sodium.
  • Dehydration.
  • Decreased blood calcium, phosphate, or potassium levels.
  • Increased blood uric acid.
  • Muscle cramps or electric shock-like sensations in the limbs.
  • Loss of taste, vision problems (such as blurred vision, strange colors, eye pain), or other heart problems.
  • Unusually cold or pale hands and feet.
  • Tingling, numbness, or tremors in the hands, feet, arms, or legs.
  • Persistent headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, hiccups, or diarrhea.
  • Increased liver enzymes or bilirubin.
  • Breathing difficulties, shortness of breath, chest pain when breathing, or coughing up blood.
  • Kidney or urinary problems.
  • Hair loss, rash, extreme fatigue, or weakness.
  • Swelling or tenderness at the injection site.
  • Convulsions and twitching.
  • Burning or tingling sensation.
  • Unexpected bruising or bleeding.
  • Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (changes in kidneys and blood).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to cisplatin or other platinum-containing medicines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a low blood cell count, are breastfeeding, or have severe kidney disease, hearing problems, or are dehydrated.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have symptoms of nerve damage (like tingling or numbness) or have received radiation therapy to the head.
  • Avoid the yellow fever vaccine and discuss other vaccinations with your doctor, as some live vaccines can cause serious infections.
  • Remember to drink plenty of water after treatment to help protect your kidneys.

  • This medicine can affect your bone marrow and cause changes in your blood cells. Your doctor will check your blood regularly.
  • Use contraception during treatment and for at least 6 months after, and talk to your doctor about fertility concerns.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if the medicine causes symptoms that impair your ability.
