How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose is 10-50 mg once daily, with a maintenance dose usually between 20-40 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water; do not chew them.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Muscle stiffness, trembling, or restlessness (difficulty sitting still).
  • Tiredness, insomnia, or difficulty concentrating.
  • Dry mouth or increased saliva production.
  • Headache or dizziness.
  • Increased sweating, vision problems.
  • Constipation, fast heartbeat, weakness.
  • Changes in appetite (increased/decreased), nausea, diarrhea, weight changes.
  • Mood changes (depression), low blood pressure, decreased sex drive.
  • Erection or ejaculation problems in men, menstrual problems in women.
RARE
  • Seizures, tingling or numbness (paresthesia).
  • Involuntary movements of the mouth or tongue (tardive dyskinesia), low muscle tone.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, gas, enlarged bowel, increased thirst.
  • Fever, allergic reaction, rash, shortness of breath, stuffy nose.
  • Muscle pain, fainting, hot flashes, abnormal liver tests.
  • Changes in blood cell counts (e.g., decreased platelets, white blood cells).
  • High blood sugar, high blood fats, jaundice, liver inflammation.
  • Missed periods, prolonged painful erection (priapism).
  • Heart rhythm problems (such as slow heart rate, prolonged QT interval).
  • Blood clots (e.g., leg swelling/pain, chest pain, shortness of breath).
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, fast heartbeat).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to zuclopenthixol or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have reduced consciousness, an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), or abnormal blood counts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, diabetes, seizures, heart or blood vessel disease, low potassium or magnesium in your blood, or risk factors for stroke (like smoking or high blood pressure).
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking other medications, especially other antipsychotics, or medicines that affect heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you or someone in your family has had blood clots.

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, or irregular heartbeat (neuroleptic malignant syndrome) or involuntary movements of the mouth or tongue (tardive dyskinesia).
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can increase the sedative effects of the medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor.
  • This medicine may cause drowsiness and dizziness, especially at the start of treatment. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
  • Cisordinol is not recommended for children or adolescents.
