How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your exact dose. It usually starts from 2 mg to 50 mg daily and can be adjusted.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food. At first, you might take it 2-3 times a day; later, usually once a day.

Important

The highest daily dose is 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, trouble sleeping, difficulty focusing, dry mouth.
  • Unusual or stiff movements, trembling hands, inability to sit still (restlessness), Parkinson-like symptoms.
  • Headache, dizziness (especially when standing up), sweating a lot, vision problems.
  • Increased saliva, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss.
  • Fast heartbeat, feeling weak, low blood pressure, feeling generally unwell.
  • Abnormal urination, skin reactions to sunlight, itching, unusual dreams, reduced sex drive, depression.
  • Men may have problems with erections or ejaculation. Women may have menstrual problems and weight gain with long-term use.
RARE
  • Seizures, tingling or numbness, involuntary mouth/tongue movements (tardive dyskinesia).
  • Weak muscles, increased appetite, stomach pain, indigestion, gas, swollen bowel, thirst, fever.
  • Allergic reactions, increased sex drive, stuffy nose, shortness of breath, skin rash or inflammation.
  • Muscle stiffness, jaw stiffness (lockjaw), twisted neck or abnormal head posture, muscle pain.
  • Fainting spells, hot flashes, abnormal liver tests, difficulty reaching orgasm (women), milk discharge from breasts.
  • Overactive reflexes, migraine, low levels of blood cells (platelets, white blood cells).
  • Skin discoloration (purple spots), high blood sugar, poor glucose control, high blood fats.
  • Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), liver inflammation, missed periods.
  • Long-lasting, painful erection not related to sexual excitement (priapism).
  • Changes in heart rhythm, including a slow heart rate or other irregularities (prolonged QT interval, arrhythmias).
  • Blood clots, especially in the legs (swelling, pain, redness), which can travel to the lungs causing chest pain and breathing problems.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to zuclopenthixol or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if your consciousness is low, you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), or abnormal blood cell counts.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get a high fever, stiff muscles, confusion, or a very fast heartbeat, as these could be signs of a serious condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you notice involuntary movements of your mouth or tongue, as this could be an early sign of another serious condition called tardive dyskinesia.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get signs of a blood clot, such as swelling, pain, or redness in your legs, or chest pain and trouble breathing.

  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, seizures, diabetes, brain problems (organic brain syndrome), risk factors for stroke, low potassium or magnesium levels, or heart disease.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you very drowsy.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel drowsy or dizzy, especially at the start of treatment.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or teenagers.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
