How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will specify the exact dose and how often to take the medicine, based on your infection's type and severity.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water. Do not chew or crush them. Try to take them at the same time each day. You can take them with or without food, but not at the same time as dairy products or drinks rich in calcium. Take these drinks 1-2 hours before or at least 4 hours after Ciproxin. Remember to drink plenty of fluids.

Important

Your doctor will specify the maximum daily dose for your infection. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

  • Rash, itching, hives
  • Muscle and bone pain, general malaise, fever
  • Changes in kidney or liver function, jaundice
  • Muscle tension, muscle cramps, tendon inflammation or rupture
  • Severe bowel inflammation (colitis)
  • Changes in blood count (e.g., anemia, changes in white blood cells or platelets)
  • Allergic reactions, swelling
  • Blood sugar changes (high or low)
  • Confusion, anxiety, depression (suicidal thoughts), strange dreams, hallucinations
  • Numbness, tingling, tremor, vertigo
  • Vision disturbances (e.g., double vision)
  • Hearing problems, ringing in the ears
  • Palpitations, low blood pressure, fainting
  • Shortness of breath or asthma-like symptoms
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Kidney failure, urinary tract infection, blood or crystals in urine
  • Fluid retention in the body, excessive sweating

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Ciproxin if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Ciproxin if you are also taking tizanidine.
  • If you have previously had severe side effects from quinolone antibiotics (like Ciproxin), tell your doctor immediately before continuing.
  • If you experience a severe allergic reaction (symptoms like chest tightness, dizziness, nausea, fainting), stop taking the medicine and seek emergency medical help immediately.
  • If you experience long-lasting side effects like tendon, muscle, or joint pain, difficulty walking, numbness, tingling, or vision/hearing problems, contact your doctor immediately before continuing the medicine.

  • If you feel pain or inflammation in your tendons (e.g., ankle, wrist, shoulder), stop taking Ciproxin and contact your doctor immediately. Rest the affected area.
  • If you experience sudden, severe pain in your stomach, chest, or back, seek emergency medical care immediately, as this could be a sign of a serious blood vessel problem.
  • If you experience sudden shortness of breath, swelling (ankles, feet, abdomen), or new heart palpitations, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have epilepsy or another neurological condition and experience a seizure while taking Ciproxin, stop the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you develop symptoms of nerve damage (pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness in your hands or feet), stop Ciproxin and tell your doctor immediately.
  • If you experience mood changes, depression, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, or behavior, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Ciproxin can affect your blood sugar levels, either raising or lowering them. If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar carefully and tell your doctor about any changes.
  • If you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea, or if there is blood or mucus in your stool, stop taking Ciproxin and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If your vision worsens or you experience other eye symptoms, contact an ophthalmologist immediately.
  • Ciproxin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight or UV light. Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor or laboratory staff that you are taking Ciproxin if you are having blood or urine tests.
  • If you have kidney problems, tell your doctor, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Ciproxin can cause liver damage. If you experience symptoms like loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, itching, or stomach tenderness, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Ciproxin can lower your white blood cell count and weaken your resistance to infections. If you develop a fever or signs of infection (e.g., sore throat, difficulty urinating), seek medical attention immediately.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose and/or increase the dosing interval in moderately severe renal impairment. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Increases the risk of tendinitis and aortic injury and valvular heart disease. Consider central nervous system adverse effects, especially lowered seizure threshold and confusion. (updated 4.12.2023)
