This medicine helps control levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphorus in your body to treat parathyroid gland problems.
For secondary hyperparathyroidism, adults usually start with 30 mg once a day. For children aged 3 to under 18 with secondary hyperparathyroidism, the usual starting dose is up to 0.20 mg per kg of body weight per day. For parathyroid cancer or primary hyperparathyroidism, adults usually start with 30 mg twice a day.
Take this medicine by mouth with food or just after eating. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, crush, or divide them, even if there is a score line.
