How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right amount of Cifoban for you, depending on your health and treatment.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip into your blood circulation outside your body in a hospital, with close medical supervision.

Important

For adults, you should not get more than 10.4 liters of this medicine in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood salts (like too little calcium or magnesium, or too much sodium).
  • Problems with your blood's acid balance (pH level too high or too low).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, such as low blood pressure, feeling sick, back or stomach pain, itching, rash, or red skin.
  • Too much fluid in your body.
  • Headache, seizures (fits), or becoming unconscious.
  • Irregular heartbeat or heart stopping.
  • Extra fluid in your lungs.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Trouble breathing or breathing stopping.
  • Breathing unusually fast.
  • Vomiting.
  • Muscle cramps.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Cifoban if you are allergic to sodium citrate.
  • Do not use if your body could not break down enough Cifoban in the past, causing too much citrate to build up in your blood.
