How to Use

Dosage

Use one single-use swab for each application. Your doctor or nurse will choose the correct size for the area.

Method

Gently rub the foam pad on the skin area to be prepared, using back-and-forth motions for 30 seconds. Allow the treated area to air dry completely.

Important

Each swab is for single use only and should not be reapplied or used for multiple procedures on the same day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; red and itchy rash; wheezing or difficulty breathing; weakness and dizziness; metallic taste in the mouth; fainting)
  • Skin irritation or allergic reactions (rash; itchy, painful, red, blistered, dry, or inflamed skin where the product was used)
  • Eye irritation; pain; blurred vision; chemical burns; eye injury; skin burns in newborns/infants

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to chlorhexidine gluconate or any other ingredient in ChloraPrep.
  • Do not use in the ear canal, as it may cause hearing damage.
  • This product is for external use only.
  • Avoid contact with eyes or sensitive areas (like mucous membranes). If contact occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Do not use on open skin wounds or directly on nerve tissue (e.g., brain or spinal cord).

  • If you notice symptoms of a severe allergic reaction (like swelling of face/throat, rash, wheezing, dizziness, or fainting), stop use and seek medical help immediately.
  • Apply gently to the skin. Excessive force or repeated application on sensitive skin may cause irritation, rash, or pain. If this happens, stop use.
  • Avoid continuous skin contact. Ensure wet materials like drapes are removed before use and that the solution does not pool on the skin.
  • The solution is flammable. Do not use near open flames, strong heat, or while smoking until the skin is completely dry.
  • Use with caution in newborns, especially premature babies, as it can cause chemical skin burns.
