Cemisiana is a birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy and treat moderate acne in women when other treatments haven't worked.

How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet every day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a little water, with or without food. Take it at about the same time each day.

Important

One active tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Breast pain, including discomfort and tenderness in the breasts
RARE
  • Vaginal and/or external genital inflammation, vaginal yeast infection (candidiasis, other vaginal and/or external genital infections)
  • Increased appetite
  • Depression
  • Migraine, rotational vertigo (dizziness)
  • Increase or decrease in blood pressure
  • Abdominal pain (including abdominal bloating), nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Acne, hair loss, rash, itching
  • Irregular periods, including heavy periods, light periods, infrequent periods, and missed periods
  • Breakthrough bleeding (vaginal bleeding and irregular bleeding between periods), painful periods
  • Genital/vaginal discharge, ovarian cysts, internal pelvic pain, breast enlargement, breast swelling
  • Fatigue, weakness, general discomfort
  • Weight gain
  • Inflammation of ovaries or fallopian tubes, urinary tract infection, bladder infection, breast inflammation, cervical inflammation, fungal infections (e.g., Candida), viral infections (e.g., oral herpes), flu, bronchitis, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections
  • Benign uterine fibroids (myomas), benign breast fatty tissue tumors
  • Decrease in red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Male-like features in women
  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression, mental disorders, insomnia, sleep disturbances, aggressiveness
  • Brain or heart circulatory disorders, muscle disorders that may cause abnormal postures (dystonia)
  • Dry or irritated eyes, eye problems, blurred vision
  • Sudden hearing loss, ringing or other noises in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness, impaired hearing
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Vein inflammation, low blood pressure, dizziness or fainting when standing up from sitting or lying down, hot flashes, varicose veins, vein disorders, pain in veins
  • Dangerous blood clots in a vein or artery, for example: in a leg or foot (deep vein thrombosis), in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), blood clots in the liver, stomach/intestines, kidneys or eyes.
  • Asthma, rapid or deep breathing
  • Stomach wall inflammation, intestinal inflammation, digestive problems
  • Allergic skin inflammation, rash (e.g., neurodermatitis), itchy, red and burning rash (eczema), skin disease with thickened, red rash patches (psoriasis), heavy sweating, skin discoloration or disorders (chloasma), excessive oil secretion from sebaceous glands, dandruff, excessive body and facial hair growth (hirsutism), skin changes, orange peel skin (cellulite), net-like blood vessel formations with a red spot in the middle (spider naevi)
  • Back pain, bone, joint, and muscle pain, limb pain
  • Abnormal cell growth on the cervical surface, pain or cysts in fallopian tubes and ovaries, breast cysts, pain/cramps during intercourse, milky discharge from breasts, menstrual problems
  • Chest pain, swelling of hands, ankles or feet, flu-like symptoms, inflammation, fever, irritability
  • Increased blood fat levels (triglycerides and cholesterol), weight loss, weight changes
  • Swelling of congenital, extra mammary glands outside the breast area

Important Warnings

  • Combination birth control pills slightly increase the risk of blood clots, especially during the first year of use or when restarting after a break of 4 weeks or more. Watch for symptoms of blood clots and seek medical attention if you suspect one.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a blood clot in your leg (deep vein thrombosis), lungs (pulmonary embolism), or any other part of the body.
  • Do not use if you have a blood clotting disorder (e.g., protein C deficiency, protein S deficiency, antithrombin III deficiency, Factor V Leiden, or antiphospholipid antibodies).
  • Do not use if you need surgery or will be bedridden for a long time.
  • Do not use if you have had a heart attack or stroke.

  • Do not use if you have or have had angina pectoris (severe chest pain, a sign of heart attack) or a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke symptoms).
  • Do not use if you have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, very high blood pressure, very high blood fat levels (cholesterol or triglycerides), or hyperhomocysteinemia.
  • Do not use if you have or have had migraine with aura.
  • Do not use if you have or have had pancreatitis with very high blood fat levels.
  • Do not use if you have or have had liver disease and your liver function has not returned to normal.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a benign or malignant liver tumor.
  • Do not use if you have or are suspected of having a hormone-sensitive cancer of the reproductive organs or breasts (e.g., breast cancer or uterine lining cancer).
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to ethinylestradiol, dienogest, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have Hepatitis C and are taking certain medications (e.g., those containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir and dasabuvir, glecaprevir/pibrentasvir, or sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir).
  • Seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of a blood clot, such as in your leg (deep vein thrombosis), lungs (pulmonary embolism), a heart attack, or a stroke.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice changes in your health, especially those mentioned in the 'Do not take Cemisiana' section, and consider your family's medical history.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you feel a lump in your breast.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have unusual, heavy vaginal bleeding between periods.
