How to Use

Dosage

Start with 200 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 400 mg once daily after 2-4 weeks.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water at least 30 minutes before eating or 2 hours after eating. You can split the tablet if needed.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 400 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Headache, confusion, nervousness
  • Sweating
  • Insomnia, nightmares
  • Depression, psychosis or hallucinations
  • Numbness and coldness in limbs
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
  • Very low blood pressure (hypotension), slow heart rate (bradycardia), sudden and brief loss of consciousness (fainting), heart palpitations, heart conduction problems, heart failure
  • Allergic skin reactions (redness, itching, rash) and hair loss
RARE
  • Low blood platelets (thrombocytopenia) or small bleeding spots on skin and mucous membranes (purpura)
  • Muscle weakness or abnormal weakness, muscle cramps
  • Dry eyes (important if you wear contact lenses), eye inflammation (conjunctivitis)
  • Dry mouth
  • Tightening of airways (bronchospasms), asthma-related breathing problems (asthmatic shortness of breath), inflammatory lung disease (interstitial pneumonitis)
  • Onset of diabetes (if hidden) or worsening of existing diabetes
  • Abnormal muscle weakness or increased weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • Inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva (keratoconjunctivitis), vision problems
  • Hearing loss, ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Increased chest pain attacks in angina pectoris patients
  • Peripheral circulation disorders (intermittent claudication, Raynaud's syndrome)
  • Onset of psoriasis, worsening of psoriasis symptoms, psoriasis-like skin reactions
  • Chronic joint disease (inflammation of one or more joints)
  • Further worsening of kidney function in severe kidney failure
  • Decreased libido and potency
  • Abnormal liver enzyme levels in blood (transaminases ALAT and ASAT)
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), high blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Tremor, hot flashes
  • Dryness of the outer parts of the eye (conjunctiva and cornea) (xerophthalmia)
  • Heart failure, changes in heart rate (arrhythmias)
  • Sinus arrest (heart beats very slowly or stops). This can happen especially in people over 65 or with other heart rhythm problems.
  • Stomach pain (gastralgia)
  • Reversible lupus-like syndrome
  • Impotence
  • Antinuclear antibodies

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to celiprolol, other beta-blockers, or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have heart failure or a very slow heartbeat (under 50 beats per minute).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an untreated tumor near your kidney called pheochromocytoma, which causes high blood pressure.
  • Do not take this medicine if your blood is too acidic (metabolic acidosis).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have very low blood pressure.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney or liver problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have chronic lung disease, sudden asthma attacks, or sudden muscle tightening in your airways.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have narrowed blood vessels or circulation problems that cause tingling, paleness, or blueness in your fingers and toes.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are also taking certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors (except MAO-B inhibitors).
  • Always tell your doctor or anesthesiologist that you are taking this medicine if you need to have surgery with general anesthesia.
  • This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor first.
  • This medicine can make you feel dizzy or tired. Do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
  • Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine. You should stop gradually over 1-2 weeks under your doctor's guidance, especially if you have heart disease.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Do not use in end-stage renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions especially with with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 20.1.2025)
