Celebra is an anti-inflammatory medicine that eases symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis by reducing pain and inflammation.

How to Use

Dosage

One 200 mg capsule once daily, or one 100 mg capsule twice daily, as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take Celebra by mouth as a whole capsule. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day. Do not chew or crush the capsule.

Important

No more than 400 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood pressure, or worsening of existing high blood pressure.
  • Fluid build-up in the body, causing swelling in ankles, legs, and/or hands.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Breathing difficulties, sinus infection (sinus pain or stuffiness), stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, cough, cold-like symptoms.
  • Dizziness, trouble sleeping.
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, gas, nausea, vomiting.
  • Rash, itching.
  • Headache.
  • Muscle stiffness, joint pain.
  • Worsening of existing allergies.
RARE
  • Stroke.
  • Heart failure, palpitations (feeling your heartbeat), fast heartbeat, heart attack.
  • Changes in liver or kidney blood test results.
  • Anemia (low red blood cells), causing tiredness and shortness of breath.
  • Anxiety, depression, tiredness, drowsiness, tingling or prickling sensation in the skin.
  • Blurred or decreased vision, ringing in ears, mouth sores, hearing loss, eye inflammation.
  • Stomach ulcers or bleeding, burst intestine, severe stomach pain, dark or bloody stools, vomiting blood, inflammation of the pancreas (causing stomach pain).
  • Severe skin reactions like blistering, peeling skin, widespread rash, or red, swollen areas with small pus-filled spots.
  • Severe liver inflammation (hepatitis), liver damage, or liver failure, with symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, yellow skin or eyes, or dark urine.
  • Acute kidney failure or other serious kidney problems, with symptoms like swelling, foamy urine, tiredness.
  • Blood clots in the lungs (sudden shortness of breath, sharp chest pain when breathing, fainting).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to celecoxib, sulfonamides (like some antibiotics), or any other ingredients in Celebra.
  • Do not take if you currently have an ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
  • Do not take if you have had asthma, nasal polyps, severe stuffy nose, or an allergic reaction (like rash, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, or wheezing/difficulty breathing) after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during treatment, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney disease.

  • Do not take if you have inflammatory bowel disease (such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease).
  • Do not take if you have heart failure, known ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease (e.g., heart attack, stroke), or blood circulation problems in your legs.
  • Avoid taking Celebra with other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, diclofenac), except low-dose aspirin for heart protection, unless advised by your doctor.
  • Stop taking Celebra and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a severe skin reaction such as a rash, blistering, or peeling skin.
  • Stop taking Celebra and contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of severe liver problems, such as nausea, diarrhea, yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling. Worsens renal and cardiac failure and causes cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
