How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will decide your dose based on your infection, weight, age, and kidney function. For adults, it's typically 750 mg to 1500 mg, two to four times a day. For children, the dose depends on their body weight.

Method

This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a muscle or vein, or as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein.

Important

The most you can get in one day is 6 grams (6000 mg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain, swelling, or redness where the injection was given.
  • Changes in liver tests, changes in white blood cells (like neutropenia or eosinophilia), or fewer red blood cells (anemia).
RARE
  • Skin rash or itchy raised rash (hives).
  • Diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea), or stomach pain.
  • Fewer white blood cells (leukopenia), higher bilirubin levels (a substance from the liver), or a positive Coombs test.
  • Fungal infections (like thrush), especially if taken for a long time.
  • Fever.
  • Serious allergic reaction with severe rash, swelling (sometimes of the face or mouth), and trouble breathing.
  • Severe inflammation of the large intestine (colitis) causing severe diarrhea, often with blood and mucus, and stomach pain.
  • Inflammation of the kidneys or blood vessels.
  • Red blood cells breaking down too quickly (hemolytic anemia).
  • Severe skin reactions with blisters, peeling skin, or spots that look like targets (dark center with a lighter ring). This includes Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or DRESS syndrome (widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes).
  • Chest pain linked to allergic reactions, which could be a sign of an allergy-triggered heart attack.
  • Fewer blood platelets (cells that help blood clot) or higher levels of urea nitrogen and creatinine (markers of kidney function).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to cefuroxime, other similar antibiotics (cephalosporins), or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin or similar antibiotics.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get a severe skin rash with blisters, peeling skin, or sores in your mouth, as these can be serious reactions.
  • This medicine can affect the results of some blood and urine sugar tests and a specific blood test called the Coombs test. Always tell the person taking your samples that you are receiving Cefuroxim Navamedic.
  • If you are taking birth control pills, this medicine might make them less effective. You should use another form of birth control, like condoms, while taking Cefuroxim Navamedic.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel unwell or dizzy, as this medicine can affect your ability to concentrate.
