How to Use

Dosage

Newborns (0-3 weeks): 30-100 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into 2-3 doses. Infants (over 3 weeks) and children: 30-100 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into 3-4 doses. Adults and adolescents: 750 mg - 1.5 g two, three, or four times a day. Your doctor will decide your exact dose.

Method

A doctor or nurse will usually give you this medicine. It is given as a drip (infusion) or an injection into a vein or muscle.

Important

The maximum dose is 6 grams per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site or around the vein.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests).
  • Changes in white blood cell count, such as neutropenia or eosinophilia (seen in blood tests).
  • Decrease in red blood cells (anemia, seen in blood tests).
RARE
  • Rash, itchy bumps (hives).
  • Diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain.
  • Decrease in white blood cells (leukopenia, seen in blood tests).
  • Increased bilirubin level (a substance produced by the liver, seen in blood tests).
  • Positive Coombs' test (seen in blood tests).
  • Fungal infections (e.g., thrush).
  • Fever.
  • Allergic reactions (milder forms).
  • Inflammation of the colon, which causes diarrhea, usually with bloody and slimy stools, and abdominal pain.
  • Inflammation of the kidneys and blood vessels.
  • Too rapid breakdown of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia, seen in blood tests).
  • Rash that may involve blisters and looks like small targets (erythema multiforme).
  • Decrease in platelets (cells involved in blood clotting, thrombocytopenia, seen in blood tests).
  • Increased blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels (seen in blood tests).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics, any other ingredients in this medicine, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin or similar medicines before.
  • If you experience a severe allergic reaction, such as a serious rash, swelling of the face or mouth that makes it hard to breathe, seek medical help right away.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe skin reactions, such as widespread blistering or peeling skin, target-like rashes, or a rash with fever and swollen lymph nodes.
  • If you experience chest pain with allergic reactions, seek medical attention immediately, as it could be a sign of a heart attack.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking (including over-the-counter ones), as they may affect how Cefuroxim MIP Pharma works or increase side effects.
