How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your infection. For most adults and children over 50 kg, it's typically 1-2 grams once a day, but can be up to 4 grams for severe infections.

Method

This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as a drip into a vein (infusion) or as an injection into a vein or muscle.

Important

The maximum daily dose is generally 4 grams.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood cell counts (like fewer white blood cells or platelets).
  • Loose stools or diarrhea.
  • Changes in liver function tests shown in blood tests.
  • Rash.
RARE
  • Fungal infections, like thrush.
  • Anemia (low red blood cells, causing tiredness).
  • Headache and dizziness.
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting).
  • Pain or burning where the injection was given.
  • Sudden swelling of face, throat, lips, or mouth, making it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • Severe skin rash with blisters or peeling skin.
  • Gallbladder or liver problems, causing pain, nausea, yellow skin, dark urine, or pale stools.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ceftriaxone, penicillin, or similar antibiotics. Tell your doctor if you've had severe allergic reactions before.
  • This medicine cannot be mixed with or given at the same time as calcium-containing solutions or products, especially for newborns.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get a severe rash, blisters, peeling skin, fever, or flu-like symptoms.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy.
